Balay Ti Amianan

North Philippines, 4/16/2006

"Balay Ti Amianan" means "Malacanang of the North". Popularly known as Malacañang of the North (in Philippines), the 2-storey stone and wood mansion was built on a slightly elevated area overlooking Lake Paoay. Designed as a resthouse, it has wide windows as if to welcome the breeze from the lake into the house. And, even wider verandas for a good view of the lake. The imposing structure is now a museum through which visitors can roam freely after paying a nominal charge

Marcos' official residence in Ilocos Norte overlooking Paoay Lake. An imposing edifice built to resemble a 19th century bahay na bato. Malacañang of the North, the official residence of President Ferdinand Marcos in Ilocos Norte. One of the 29 presidential rest houses that the late president had built. The house seems to be a "display window" of antique furnitures, chandeliers and paintings. Points of interest are the long dining table, canopy beds, and grand staircase.

Don's note on 10/30/2008: The term "Malacañang" is a metonym for the Philippine President's administration, or the Executive branch. It is called Malakanyang in Filipino, when referred to as the official residence of the President of the Philippines, and simply Malacañang when referred to as the office of the president, as well as in everyday parlance and in the media. "Former Prez Marcos Bed" was built in 1976 as a 60th birthday present from Former First lady Imelda Marcos.
