Roux, a French native well-known in Europe for his classic culinary expertise, opened the three-star Le Gavroche in Britain in 1967 and later the Waterside Inn, also in Britain. Le Gavroche became a Michelin three-star restaurant in the '80s, although it has since dropped back to two. Chefs such as Gordon Ramsay and Marco Pierre White have trained with Roux.
