Taiwan High Speed Rail's Blooper

Edinburgh Rail Station

Taiwan's Chinese-language Daily News, Liberty Times, reports that THSR (Taiwan High Speed Rail) mislabeled it's "20% Off discount rates" starting earlier this month on the 5th as "80% Off", due to common mistakes in English, on it's English web site

When it comes to Mandarin discounts, they are expressed the opposite of English. So don’t get too excited when something is marked 八折 (pronounced ba zhé, 80%). It means you can buy it for 80% of its regular price – a 20% discount.

The format for discounts is number + 折. Western (Arabic) numbers are used instead of Chinese characters.
